Makari Phoenix and Omiri Hayes shared an unforgettable night that eventually changed the trajectory of their future.
She left that mistake and the man she shared it with in the past. However, a year later their worlds collide again and Makari has kept a secret that will turn the NFL superstar’s world upside down.
That secret shares unique eyes identical to his…
Omiri Hayes is an NFL great and tortured soul. His money, access, and secrets from his past create a perfect storm for reckless decisions. When Omiri crosses paths with the one who got away, he’s determined not to fumble the opportunity to prove he isn’t the same man she crept out on a year ago. He’s ready to fight for what he wants… his family.
Makari isn’t looking for his money, fame, or promises. The only demand she has is for Omiri to prove he can be the man their daughter needs him to be. Despite Omiri’s charming ways, Makari doesn’t trust his motives yet realizes some connections can’t be denied.
Omiri has to prove he can be the MVP for the two people who matter most to him, even if it means facing his demons. Makari has her own game plan that doesn’t include getting blindsided by feelings for her child’s father.
Unfortunately, they’ve both already lost yardage with continual flags on the play of their tenuous connection working overtime to keep them out of the end zone. The drive downfield may not be pretty but Makari and Omiri are determined to score and seal the win.
Note To Reader
This is an urban sports romance!
Omiri is occasionally reckless with his mouth and actions. He is a work in progress, unrefined and unpolished in a lot of ways. He will not always say or do things reflective of what social norms would expect of a man in his position. He’s unapologetically hood with money and access.
If you cannot handle a man who is rough around the edges, fiercely protective, and a little reckless… Do not read this book. Omiri is hesitant about accepting the role of father and Makari made a personal decision to keep their baby a secret. Give them time to grow and settle into their new roles.
Let their decisions be their own. We all have different life experiences that shape how we process, think, feel and what we believe. These characters are navigating from their experiences, not mine, yours or anyone else’s. If you trust me, I promise I’ll get them where they need to be.
Also, sharing blood doesn’t grant you a pass on disrespect. As much as it would be amazing to find resolve with parents and family members, sometimes you have to leave them where they are in order to protect your peace. All relationships don’t deserve resolution.
Fuck Omiri and Makari’s mothers…and not respectfully!
– If you cannot handle mature language and content, please don’t read this book.
– If you don’t like secret babies or babies being a main character in stories, please don’t read this book.
– If you have expectations, please don’t read this book.
Expectations are the killjoy of life.
Go into this with an open heart and mind and you’ll enjoy it much more than expecting this journey to be something I never intended it to be. Every book is not for everyone, so please don’t force a fit.
If you’re a mood reader like me and your mood currently isn’t secret baby or sports romance, circle back when you’re in that space.
For those of you who trust my pen and are down with the above mentioned topics, please proceed.
If you prefer my softer, more contemporary books, this one might not feed your soul. However, Omiri is a lover at heart and a loyal protector of the woman who deserves his love. He does not disappoint…but I’m biased
Trigger warnings:
