A musician is stranded on Mars, but joined by fellow musicians as he builds a hyperlight thruster with a sapient dragon of the desert who has been experimenting for centuries with human DNA. Jimmie Memnon, a musician born in the Sputnik era, when Presley recorded his
first record, is stranded on Mars, and is very nostalgic for Earth’s nature.
Memnon’s memory of the years 2012-2020 was erased, as was almost everyone’s,
but he feels there was a great trauma at that time. His old friend and bassist
Osha joins him after a long space journey. Jimmie has a new mercury-fission
engine capability, which he dreams of converting for space travel.
After visiting the expensive city of Syrtis, where he has to sell his antique shklar
weapon and his precious guitar to raise cash, he proceeds further westward with a woman he meets. Khlilia tells legends learned from early Mars explorers, which show that the stories his bass player Osha told about ancient Greek myths and Agamemnon were more accurate than Jimmie Memnon had believed.
Together they explore the galaxy.
